Yenchi Lin received his Masters in Computer Science from University of Delaware at Newark in 2003. After his Masters he continued in graduate school as a PhD candidate at National Cheng Kung University in Taiwan, where he researched and developed algorithms for automated conversion of two-dimensional hand-drawn animations into 3-D animations. After a stint of 1.5 years at this problem he decided to move to more hands-on software engineering. Starting off as a software engineer at Corel and getting a few promotions, he decided to move into the new and upcoming age of large-scale mobile apps, specifically on Android operating system. Since 2009 Yenchi has been involved in designing and building several large Android apps end-to-end including integration with complex back-end Machine Learning systems with feedback loops. At Lightsphere AI, Yenchi specializes in designing and building data-driven mobile apps, and integrating with the complex ML ecosystems around it, including back-end and on-device ML models, interfaces and service components. Problems he specializes in include optimizing data connection and transmission overheads and latency, maximizing user feedback accuracy from the app while minimizing user friction, remote and local session tracking for sequence of user and AI events, optimizing mobile app’s interaction with the device OS, and logging user and device data efficiently to remote servers from the mobile app.
